Five named for Larimer County Environmental Stewardship Awards

FORT COLLINS – Two businesses, a mountain neighborhood, a food-focused community group and a dedicated Estes Park resident are recipients of the 2011 Larimer County Environmental Stewardship Awards, the county announced.

Nominations for the awards come from the public and are reviewed by the county’s Environmental Advisory Board, which then makes recommendations to the county commissioners.

Prioritizing mental health in hospice care

  • Fort Collins Bicycle Co-op – Recognized for its bike education, safety and recycling efforts;
  • RB+B Architects – Recognized for its sustainability efforts both with their clients and internally;
  • Redstone Mitigators – Recognized for showing how a group of Redstone Canyon residents can work together on common forest management and wildfire safety goals;
  • The Growing Project – Grassroots group recognized for its projects related to urban agriculture, community gardening and gleaning food that might be wasted and delivering it to Food Bank for Larimer County;
  • Irene Little – Estes Park resident and chair of League of Women Voters community recycling committee recognized for her tireless recycling efforts in that community.

The awards, begun in 1995, are given annually to honor the environmental efforts of county residents, businesses and organizations. Winning efforts are innovative and proactive and show exceptional effort and concern for stewardship of the environment in the county.
