Stretch Yourself

Last week I facilitated a session on job search tips to a group of about 60 people. Since then a few folks have networked with me via LinkedIn or personal email. I am open to this kind of interaction because I think it is important to practice what I preach. What I preach is that we need each other. None of us can make it alone. I also espouse to the notion that connecting with others need not be a strained effort that depletes us. Meaningful interaction should energize and fill us to the brim with all kinds of good ju-ju.

As we listen to others we increase our capacity for compassion and empathy.  When we help others, we generally help ourselves even more – literally or in terms of the positive karma we create. Networking can help us gain a better understanding of others as well as of ourselves. Connecting with others expands our knowledge of the world, which in turn helps us navigate our own lives more effectively.

Open your heart and mind to the power of networking and soon you will find that you are reaching out with greater ease. Networking is a lot like yoga…the stretches and poses that once appeared impossible become familiar and comfortable with practice.
