NCMC completes electronic medical record conversion

GREELEY – North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley is finishing its
conversion from paper to electronic medical records this week,
completing a conversion for all Banner Health hospitals in Colorado.

The Phoenix-based health-care system announced that NCMC is implementing
computerized provider order entry, which means physicians can enter
patient orders for medications, therapies and other clinical services
rather than writing orders on paper.

Banner has a contract to operate NCMC and owns McKee Medical Center in Loveland. It also has hospitals in Brush and Sterling.

McKee implemented its enhanced electronic medical record system in July
2009. Sterling Regional MedCenter and East Morgan County Hospital in
Brush implemented the same system earlier this year.

The effort is part of a $250 million investment in an EMR system by Banner, which owns or operates 23 hospitals in seven states.

“It is our patients who will benefit from this enabling technology that
is now a standard across our entire system,´ said John Hensing, Banner
Health executive vice president and chief medical officer, in announcing
the completion. “In addition to providing real-time information at
point-of-care that clinicians can use to make critical decisions while
they are caring for patients, our system’s 24/7 monitoring and alert
capability allows us to uniquely address specific diseases and other
health issues.”
