Crocs Inc. changes board leadership

NIWOT – Crocs Inc. chairman Richard Sharp has retired from his position and two others have been named to the board, the shoe company said Thursday.

Niwot-based Crocs (Nasdaq: CROX) said Thomas Smach has been named chairman of the board. Food industry executive Doreen Wright also was named to the board at the company, which is best known for its brightly colored clogs.

Sharp took a leave of absence from the company for personal reasons in December. He was chairman since 2005.

Smach has served as acting chairman since late 2010.

“Rick’s leadership has been a tremendous benefit to the company and the board over the past several years,” Smach said in a press statement. “Serving as chairman since before our initial public offering in 2005, Rick has thoughtfully helped us work through numerous challenges and critical decisions, and he will be greatly missed.”

Smach is a founder and partner of Riverwood Capital Management. He also is a former senior executive at Flextronics Inc., a design and manufacturing company with offices around the globe.

Wright held senior titles at Campbell Soup Co. (NYSE: CPB) and Nabisco Inc. She currently serves on the board of directors of Dean Foods (NYSE: DF) and Citadel Broadcasting Corp.

Crocs has 378 company-owned retail stores around the world, including a store in Boulder. It has plans to add as many as 40 new stores in Europe and Asia in 2011 and 25 to 35 new stores in the Americas.
