IBM opens ‘green’ data center on Boulder campus

BOULDER – IBM opened its new energy-efficient “green” data center in Boulder on June 17.

At its onset, the 115,000-square-foot, $350 million center will provide data services for 16 clients, including The Hartford Financial Services Group (NYSE:HIG).

By using 98 percent of an existing building’s core and shell, 25 percent of newly purchased material made from recycled products, energy efficient power and a plan to use purchased wind power credits from Xcel Energy, the Armonk, N.Y.-based company (NYSE:IBM) said the building on its Boulder campus is its largest and greenest data center.

Officials said the building will take advantage of Colorado’s low humidity…
