Zayo enters telecom industry as bandwidth needs increase

LOUISVILLE – Telecom industry veterans Dan Caruso and John Scarano have started Zayo Bandwidth, a fiber-based network services company, at a time when the use of video on the Internet is creating a greater demand for bandwidth.

Caruso and Scarano, both formerly with ICG Communications and Broomfield-based Level 3 Communications Inc., formed Zayo in 2006 and have lined up access to $225 million in venture capital to acquire regional fiber networks and provide high-speed Internet access.

Zayo will operate a set of regional fiber-based networks that will serve telecom operators – wire line, wireless, cable and Internet service providers – government, universities…
