Swift sales increase

GREELEY – Swift & Co. reported a year-over-year sales increase of 7 percent for its first fiscal quarter, driven largely by increases in beef.

Swift’s sales were $2.59 billion for the first quarter ended Aug. 27. The company reported a net income of almost $12 million, compared to a $13 million loss during the first quarter last year.

Sales for Swift Beef increased by 11.6 percent compared to the first quarter last year to $1.57 billion. Swift Pork experienced a 4.5 percent sales increase. However, Swift Australia experienced a slight sales decrease, fueled by a weakening Australian dollar.
