Proposals aim to head off traffic gridlock

Several public agencies are looking at ways to ease ever-increasing traffic on Interstate 25 from Fort Collins to Denver and prevent the corridor from gradually becoming a 60-mile-long parking lot.

Some proposals to be considered include funding for commuter rail or mass transit in the corridor.

The Colorado Department of Transportation has begun an environmental impact study on the route to help determine the shape and future of I-25. Mindy Crane, CDOT spokeswoman, said the study will take about three years to complete.
