Geek News: Microsoft poised to battle for search engine supremacy

We had the browser wars. Now it’s time for the search engine wars. Microsoft won the first. Will it win the second?

Way back in the 1990s, Microsoft’s browser, Internet Explorer, and Netscape’s Netscape Navigator battled it out. Navigator launched first, followed soon after by Explorer. For a while, Navigator was well in the lead, but Microsoft’s marketing muscle won out eventually, and now Explorer is by far the most “popular” browser on the Web, with most estimates of use putting Internet Explorer around 95 percent of all Web users or thereabouts.
