Northwest Parkway on track to open ahead of schedule in mid-November
The Northwest Parkway, a 70-mph toll road that will connect U.S. 36 near Broomfield with E-470 at I-25, will be opening ahead of schedule this fall, according to Steve Hogan, director of the Northwest Parkway Public Highway Authority.
The 11-mile, four-lane highway will seamlessly connect with E-470 at I-25 and alleviate traffic congestion in the U.S. 36 Corridor, Hogan said. The highway will provide a nonstop connection between Denver International Airport and the region’s technology and business corridor.
The $413.5 million project, which was started in July 2001, was scheduled to open at the end of December, but will open in November, Hogan said.

The authority, established in 1999 by the cities of Broomfield andLafayette and Weld County, will spend about $22 million on land surrounding the parkway to create open space.
Development opportunities along the parkway are limited to land at FlatIron Central, retail pads at 96th Street opposite Storage Technology Corp., in Lafayette near U.S. 287 and the Preble Creek development west of I-25.
At 96th Street traveling south, it turns into a local four-lane, two-mile, 45-mph road allowing access to U.S. 36, Flatiron Crossing and Interlocken business park.
The parkway is financed through nonrecourse revenue bonds backed by forecasted toll revenues. Private investors purchased the rated and insured bonds.
