Ongoing drought would be devastating

GREELEY — The sweet smell of sugar may not fill Greeley’s air this fall, leaving seasonal workers and sugar beet farmers looking for other sources of income.

If enough rain doesn’t come this spring, officials at The Western Sugar Cooperative may be forced to increase the length of the Greeley processing plant’s shutdown.

“In April, when we know more about the moisture, we will make a decision about running Greeley in the fall,´ said Jack Fulton, director of government relations.
