5 join Business Hall of Fame; awards luncheon on April 30

BOULDER — Five new inductees have been selected to the Boulder County Business Hall of Fame.

The 9th annual Hall of Fame luncheon honoring the new members, as well as past inductees, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, April 30 at the Millennium Hotel, formerly the Regal Harvest House, in Boulder. Reservations, which can be made by calling (303) 988-3814, are now being taken for the luncheon, which costs $25 per person.

Sponsored by Heritage Bank and the Millennium Hotel, the Hall of Fame’s board this year selected the following county business leaders to be inducted:

* Margaret “Meg” Hansson, currently president and chief executive of adrop LLC, a water purification company she founded in 1992. Hansson was the co-inventor of the Gerry Baby Carrier, and she founded Gerry Baby Products. Hansson also is a founding member of the Committee of 200, an international organization of businesswomen and has served on numerous boards, providing leadership to organizations like the Women’s Forum of Colorado and the Boulder Technology Incubator.

* Susan Pratt, owner and general coach of Longmont-based Pratt, owner and operator of high-tech business parks as well as a leader in hospitality services. Pratt, along with her late husband Ken, was instrumental in making Longmont an international city with her involvement with the Japanese business community.

* Wayne Varra, owner of Varra Insurance Agency, has been doing business in Louisville and Boulder County for 35 years. Active in the community, he has been a volunteer fireman for 25 years and is an active member of the Louisville Jaycees. He also helped implement the Centaurus scholarship fund that provides more than $200,000 in scholarships to students in need.

* Nancy West, who with her late husband Terry started West’s Antiques in Lafayette 20 years ago. The current business now covers an entire block of downtown Lafayette. Her interest in building Lafayette’s downtown led her to be active in the formation of the Lafayette Old Town Merchants Association. West also has been a leader in starting three Lafayette festivals ? the Oatmeal Fest, the Old Town Bicycle Criterium and the Antique Fair & Peach Fest.

* Roy Young, owner of Nature’s Own in Nederland, a business specializing in museum-quality fossils, crystals and related items. For the past 15 years, Young has contributed a significant portion of his profits to environmental causes, including $100,000 a year to the Caribou Fund, grants through the Global Greengiants Fund and Global Response.
