Entrepreneurs can e-mail SBA with business start-up questions

WASHINGTON – The Small Business Administration is making it easier for entrepreneurs to get the information they need to run successful businesses.

In a move to increase access to SBA programs and services, the organization has expanded its toll-free telephone answer desk service to the Internet. The new service enables the nation’s 25 million small businesses owners to e-mail questions about starting and growing their businesses over the Internet. Requests can be sent at any time via the SBA’s Web site (www.sba.gov). Business information representatives will still be available during regular operating hours to process telephone requests.

In addition to answering specific questions about how to get a loan or a license, how to get started or how to write a business plan, SBA representatives direct callers to a wide range of publications and information resources available through both local SBA office and the Web site. The call center averages 3,000 calls per week. The SBA tries to respond to all calls within one work day.

The answer desk is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The toll-free number is 1-800-U-ASK-SBA (1-800-827-5722). Spanish-speaking representatives are available.
