WINDSOR — The first office tenant in the Westgate Business Park at Interstate 25 and Colorado Highway 392 may be a software company from Greeley."It˜s not in cement yet, but we˜re excited," said Roger Meyers, director of operations at Miner & Miner Consulting Engineers Inc.
What is clear is that Miner & Miner needs more space. The 51-year-old company has been in the same building at 910 27th Ave. for the past 37 years. It was built when the company still was an engineering firm, before Miner & Miner˜s focus turned to GIS software development.
A partnership with ERSI, the world˜s biggest geographic-information-systems software developer, led Miner & Miner to begin working for large, investor-owned utility companies. The Greeley firm develops GIS products primarily for gas and electrical utilities but is beginning to branch into water and waste water.
ERSI˜s products are used as a base, and the two companies do cooperative marketing.
Miner & Miner is working on projects in Australia, Thailand, Canada and northern Europe. Almost 40 people work in the building, which is more than 10,000 square feet.
A new building could be around 14,000 square feet, said Stuart MacMillan of Everitt Companies Real Estate Services Inc., which is helping develop Westgate and acts as a project manager.
One of the driving factors behind locating in Windsor, said Meyers, who heads the company with his brother Jeff, president, and father Chuck, chairman, is convenience for employees.
"We˜ve recruited people from all over the region," Meyers said. "About one-third are from Greeley, one-third from Fort Collins and the rest from around the Front Range. Access is a goal."
Meyers said the company is focusing on three things as it makes a decision to move: to stay within budgetary goals, to make it a desirable environment for employees and not to be part of some "Tech Center of the north.
"We want this building to be a better place for our people to work," Meyers said. "Not only do we want them to be productive, but we want them to say, ÔI like going to work there.˜"
Meyers said a decision has not yet been finalized on what will be done with the Greeley building. Nonetheless, he wants to move quickly.
