NCBR index slips 22 points, even as Dow Jones gains 24
The Northern Colorado Business Report Stock Index was off the mark for the monthly trading session ended June 14.
Specifically, the NCBR Index slipped 22.12 points, or 1.63 percent, to close at 1331.98. In contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 24.01
points, or 0.43 percent, to 5649.45, and the S&P 500 Index climbed 0.43 points, or 0.06 percent, to close at 665.85.
Our basket of stocks fared as follows: Declining issues edged out advancing issues by a 40-to-38 count, and 18 stocks rallied to new 52-week highs
vs. two that dipped to new 52-week lows.
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Inc. of Durango emerged as the largest percentage gainer in our index, as it rallied 3.5 points, or 43.75 percent, to
close at $11.50. The company is looking to add hard-candy stores to its specialty chocolate offerings in order to sweeten its profits. President Frank
Crail said that the company hopes to have opened 20 of its Fuzziwig’s stores by the end of fiscal year 1997 in February.
Storage Technology Corp. of Louisville rallied seven points, or 20 percent, to close at $42. IBM Corp. has inked a deal with its rival, StorageTek, to
make storage subsystems for IBM. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but analysts said the deal could bring in hundreds of millions
of dollars in new revenue for Storage Technology. In addition, Storage Technology said that it intends to use IBM as its main distribution channel
beginning July 1.
