PDC Energy CEO resigns

PDC Energy Inc. (Nasdaq: PDCE), which drills oil and natural-gas wells in Weld County, said Wednesday that CEO James Trimble will step down.

PDC COO Barton Brookman will immediately replace Trimble as the Denver-based company’s new president and CEO, PDC said in a statement.

Brookman has worked for PDC since 2005. He has served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer since June 2013.

Trimble will serve on the Board of Directors beginning in January 2015. As a member of the Board, Trimble will function as an operations advisor to facilitate a smooth leadership transition, the company said.

PDC shares rose 2 percent to close at $69.96.
