Neighborhood meeting set for King Soopers’ redevelopment plan in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS — Neighbors around the site where King Soopers’ plans to redevelop the former Kmart site for a supermarket in Fort Collins can take a look at the proposal at an open-house style meeting set for Wednesday, Nov. 2.

The city of Fort Collins’ planning department will conduct a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Christ United Methodist Church, 301 E. Drake Road.

As proposed, King Soopers plans to demolish the building formerly occupied by Kmart at the northwest corner of South College Avenue and West Drake Road and build a new supermarket in its place.

The new store would be approximately 119,000 square feet, compared with King Soopers’ 42,000-square-foot existing store at 2325 S. College Ave., that is several blocks north of the redevelopment site.

In addition, the former Radio Shack building would be demolished, and a pad for an 8,100-square-foot building would be constructed in the northeast corner of the site along South College Avenue.

The plan includes 373 parking spaces. The new store would continue to share 60 parking spaces for users of the MAX bus rapid-transit line.

An existing building that houses Larkburger in the southeast corner of the nine-acre site would remain intact without alterations. The Loaf ’N Jug is not a part of the proposal.
