KUNC tops fundraising goal in one-day drive

GREELEY — Radio station KUNC-FM in Greeley collected $252,879 in a one-day fundraising drive earlier this week in one of the most successful drives in the station’s history.

More than 2,000 members donated money during the station’s Fall Membership Drive, exceeding a preset goal of $190,000.

The station met its largest-ever challenge grant — an additional $55,000 donated by a listener in Fort Collins.

“The response from our listeners was amazing,” said Neil Best, KUNC’s president and chief executive. “Our listeners told us they wanted more uninterrupted programming and less fundraising, so we offered them the opportunity to step up and prove that this experiment could work. Their response was beyond anything we could have expected.”

While the number of fundraising days was reduced, the goals were typical of an eight-day drive, he said. “The cost of our programming continues to go up, so we counted on our listeners contributing as they always have. … We had many new members who congratulated the station for trying something like this.”
