Gryphon Games and Comics raising funds for move in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS — Gryphon Games and Comics is in the midst of a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to help fund its move to a larger retail location within Fort Collins in November.

The comic book and game shop has raised $6,000 of its $10,000 goal after nine days.

Gryphon, founded in 2005, will be leaving 3,800 square feet of space at 2020 S. College Ave. where it’s been for the past eight years, to more than 9,000 square feet at 1119 W. Drake Road at the southwest corner of Drake and Shields Street.

Gryphon will increase space for its inventory and gaming events, and add a new café.

The café will be open beginning Nov. 1, while the retail portion of the move is expected to be completed by the end of the year, when its location on College will close. Owner Sherman Sanders said the café will be open long hours to accommodate a morning crowd as well as Gryphon’s existing game groups in the evening.

Gryphon, founded in 2005, hopes to become a community center while maintaining its gaming roots, Sanders said. The new space will be made available for local community groups to meet and organize in private. At the moment, Gryphon does not plan to charge for the use of the rooms during the day. A screen and digital projector will be provided to facilitate meetings.
