Grossen Bart Brewery plans to open Nov. 10

LONGMONT — A fifth craft brewery in Longmont has set an opening day.

Grossen Bart Brewery will open at 1025 Delaware Ave. to the public, Monday, Nov. 10, with a grand opening celebration slated for Thursday, Dec. 13.

The day is a longtime coming for owners Shad Chancey and Taylor Wise, who spent much of the last year searching for a location, home brewing and peddling their suds at various events and locations around the area in the meantime.

How dispatchable resources enable the clean energy transition

Platte River must prepare for the retirement of 431 megawatts (MW) of dispatchable, coal-fired generation by the end of the decade and address more frequent extreme weather events that can bring dark calms (periods when there is no sun or wind).

“So much hard work has gone into it,” Chancey said Tuesday. “We’re really ready to start serving pints and stop doing construction work.”

Grossen Bart, German for “big beard,” held a trial-run soft opening Friday, hosting a pre-party for the Boulder Facial Hair Club’s beard and mustache competition. Chancey said the brewery is mostly ready to go save for some touchup paint and a few pieces of equipment for the brewhouse.

The owners hired Walter Bourque as head brewer. Borque came to them after serving as a brewer at Fort Collins Brewery.

“We feel really fortunate to have him,” Chancey said. “We just wanted to have good quality beer coming out of the gate.”

The first 10-barrel batch of Fu Manchu Foreign Stout is fermenting. Chancey said Grossen Bart likely will have three beers on tap by Nov. 10 and have eight of its 18 taps flowing by the grand opening.

“Eventually we want to have all those filled up,” Chancey said.

Chancey and Wise have done much of the build-out of their 3,100-square-foot brewery since signing the lease in the spring.

The brewery joins Left Hand, Oskar Blues, 300 Suns and The Pumphouse in Longmont’s craft beer scene. Wibby Brewing is expected to open downtown sometime early next year.

Chancey said Grossen Bart’s hours are still being finalized, but that it likely would be open 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, opening its doors earlier and closing a bit later on the weekends.
