D.J. Basin, Colorado oil and gas rig count declines

The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the Denver-Julesburg Basin declined by one since Friday, Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHI) said Wednesday.

Rigs in the D.J. Basin, which includes Northern Colorado, fell to 49 this week from 50 last week. Statewide, the number of rigs also decreased by one to 67 this week.

A year ago, the D.J. Basin had 42 rigs while Colorado had 56 rigs.

Nationwide, the U.S. gained two rigs this week for a total of 1,763. The U.S. had 1,687 of those rigs exploring on land, 57 offshore and 19 in inland waters.

The U.S. had 1,811 rigs exploring for oil and gas a year ago.
