COGCC approves local-control rules for oil and gas operators

The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission on Monday approved rules regarding local governmental control of oil and natural gas wells.

Specifically, the Denver Post reports, the new rules require oil and gas companies to consult with local governments for any new drilling operations near residential areas that include eight or more wells or 4,000 barrels of storage. The rules would apply to such operations “within 1,000 feet of 22 or more homes or a large facility such as a school or hospital,” the Post notes.
