ABSL in Longmont lands part of $60M in deals

EnerSys (NYSE: ENS), which supplies stored-energy solutions for industrial applications, has been selected to supply $60 million in lithium-ion cells and batteries to multiple space agencies and original-equipment manufacturers worldwide.

The batteries will be designed, manufactured and tested by EnerSys subsidiary ABSL Space Products’ manufacturing facilities in Longmont for U.S. space programs, and in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, for European programs. The first batteries are scheduled for be shipped later this year and will be used in multiple types of satellites and launch vehicles.

“These new awards totaling more than $60 million demonstrate development and product acceptance beyond our lead acid business, and will leverage our recent lithium technology expansions,” Jeffrey Long, president — Americas for EnerSys, said in a prepared statement.
