Level 3 receives more state OKs, moves closer to CenturyLink merger
BROOMFIELD — Level 3 Communications Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) in Broomfield received two more state approvals it needs to confirm its merger with CenturyLink.
Minnesota and Virginia are now among 15 states that have approved or cleared the massive merger, valued at $34 billion.
“More than 15 states and territories have approved or cleared the CenturyLink – Level 3 merger, showing that regulators understand this transaction will create a robust, resilient and secure network and improve the combined company’s ability to meet the ever-increasing demands of customers,” John F. Jones, CenturyLink senior vice president for public policy and government relations, said in a prepared statement. “The strength of our combined network will help customers access higher bandwidth services in more locations and connect more businesses to customers around the globe.”

The plan to combine the two companies was announced in October. In December, CenturyLink began filing applications with state and federal regulatory agencies. The two companies expect to get the remaining state and federal approvals they need to complete the merger by Sept. 30, 2017.
