Vortic’s New Brand – Colorado Watch Company – Built For You
If you live in Colorado, there’s a good chance you love the great outdoors. And there’s also a good chance that you love supporting Colorado too – from your diet down to what you wear. So, what if we told you there was a wristwatch built for the outdoors that was made here in our beautiful state?
Simply named “Colorado Watch Company,” these watches are made to last. While these Colorado watches are new to the scene, they are an offshoot of the established brand Vortic Watch Company. Headquartered in Fort Collins, you may have seen Vortic at nearby festivals, on the wrist of Kevin O’Leary on the show “Shark Tank,” or being worn by two different characters on Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” series, specifically John Krasinski and Michael Kelly!
Vortic Watch Company is probably best known for the way it takes antique American pocket watches and upcycles them into modern wristwatches. People from all over the world send their Grandfather’s pocket watches to Fort Collins and have the heirlooms converted into more useable wristwatches.
The concept behind Vortic was to make a watch almost fully in America – a concept that had long since faded in the age of outsourcing. When Vortic began its business 10 years ago, there was no feasible way to make a watch movement on US soil – a hindrance that led them to use antique American pocket watch movements instead. But now, through the Colorado Watch Company, the impossible is finally possible.
In their new Field Watch, Colorado Watch Company spends over 87% of production costs in America – a statistic no competitors can match today at scale. Vortic completes most of the metalwork right in Fort Collins, so a sizable percentage of a Colorado watch comes right out of Colorado. Most of the other watch components come from New Hampshire or Arizona.
Coming out of Fort Collins, and with a name like Colorado, Vortic knew these watches could not be flimsy. The founders wanted to create watches they could wear any day in Colorado – in the rain or the snow, while hiking or fishing, etc. To that end, Vortic machines the watch cases out of 316L stainless steel in Fort Collins. The watch dials are also made of metal billet and are screwed right into the movement to prevent wear and tear or shifting.
Colorado Watch Company is releasing two watches – the Field Watch and the G.C.T. – as its first order of business. Their inaugural watches measure 40mm in diameter x 10.5mm thick (the Field Watch) and 42mm in diameter x 13mm thick (the G.C.T.). Both watches will be sufficiently water resistant to withstand the elements here.
The Field Watch is a classic design that can serve as an everyday watch. It has a strong appearance, complemented by the “Colorado Watch Company” logo front-and-center on the dial. In terms of color, the watch is on the lighter side with white or steel-colored dials. The G.C.T., on the other hand, is a darker watch with a solid black dial. This model mirrors the special edition military timepieces Vortic releases every year, down to the white G.C.T. text and military numerals contrasted against the black dial. As a final way to blaze a trail of its own, the G.C.T. has a stair-stepped multi-level dial that you have to see to believe.
