Meadowlark, Vairex win state awards for exporting

DENVER — Meadowlark Optics Inc. in Frederick and Vairex Air Systems in Boulder are among three companies statewide to receive the 2017 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Exporting for their contributions to the Colorado economy through international trade.

Meadowlark Optics designs and manufactures light-based optical products and has an international portfolio that exports to 30 countries. Meadowlark’s exports currently represent about 60 percent of Meadowlark’s sales.

Vairex Air Systems, the trade name for Victori LLC, focuses on  fuel-cell air systems, manufactures advanced air-blower systems based on the company’s patented technology. Vairex’s blowers for fuel cells in the one- to 30-kilowatt power range represents more than 90 percent of all fuel cells sold in the world, according to a statement released by the state’s Office of Economic Development

& International Trade. Vairex exports to customers in 17 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia, and exports represent 56 percent of the company’s revenue.

Project CURE, based in Centennial, also received an award. It is the world’s largest distributor of donated medical supplies and equipment, exporting these products to hospitals and clinics in more than 133 countries.

The Governor’s Award for Excellence in Exporting was first given in 1970 and recognizes economic growth through international business. Winners will be recognized Tuesday at World Trade Day in Denver.

Awardees will receive $500 worth of consulting services through the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade’s Global Consultant Network.  The program connects qualifying Colorado companies to global opportunities and market education.

Colorado exported $7.5 billion in products in 2016 and an estimated $14 billion in services.
