Rio Blanco County to suspend impact fees as oil boom wanes
GRAND JUNCTION — Rio Blanco County commissioners are suspending oil drilling impact fees until February of next year as production slows from 42 wells last year to eight in the first four months of 2015.
The Daily Sentinel reports the county created the fees when it hit a peak of 200 wells drilled in 2008, and low gas prices have contributed to the decline.
The fee can range from almost $11,000 for a shallow well to just under $18,000 for a deeper one.
