DENVER — BizWest took home four awards Friday from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Top of the Rockies contest. The honors, for work published in 2014, were announced Friday at the Denver Press Club.

In the “Less than 10,000 Circulation” category, former BizWest reporter Steve Lynn won three awards: a first place in general business reporting for “Tech backers see Colorado as ‘Silicon Valley of Weed,’” published May 16; second place for business enterprise reporting for “Private railway wins federal grant,” published May 2; and a second place for public service for “More injections sought despite quakes,” published Nov. 14.

BizWest Executive Editor Jerd Smith’s Feb. 7 editorial, “Higher health premiums: Let’s find the cure,” won second place for editorials.

Top of the Rockies is a regional, multi-platform contest for reporters and news organizations in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. Entries were judged by members of SPJ’s Connecticut chapter.
