Old Lyons Recorder changes hands
Walt Kinderman, publisher of the Old Lyons Recorder since 1981, has retired and sold the small community newspaper to News Media Corp. of Rochelle, Ill. Kinderman will stay in the area and travel. He will also keep the building.
The transaction was completed Oct. 5 when Jim Wood, who lives in Cheyenne, Wyo., took over as publisher. News Media also purchased the Old Berthoud Recorder in Bethoud , Colo. with a circulation of 1,900. He declined to say what his company paid for the newspapers.
The Old Lyons Recorder has a staff of five with Jacquelyn Watson promoted from staff writer to editor with the sale. Circulation is 1,500 and subscription costs $20.

The historical newspaper was originally founded in 1900 and operated continuously until 1942. It was dark until 1969 when Ada Lou Hammans began publishing the paper again. The name was the Lyons Recorder until Kinderman bought the paper and changed the name.
Lyons is an historic community with a past economy based on stone quarrying and agriculture.
