Homeless shelter director resigns
BOULDER — Bob Mann, executive director of the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, has resigned to take another position out-of-state. Mann’s last day at the shelter will be Jan. 31.
?I felt this was a good time for me to make a change as the shelter is on firm financial footing with a balanced budget for the year ahead,? Mann said in a press release. ?In addition, we have identified a potential site for a future shelter and are making progress toward that development. It has been an honor to work with the shelter, its clients, staff and Board. And, it has been invigorating to collaborate with the Boulder County community’s human service providers and funders.?
The shelter, established in 1982, provides overnight emergency sheltering for homeless women and men from Oct. 1 through April 30 each winter. Also, year-round programs, including overnight beds, are offered to homeless people who commit to working on their personal issues with the goal of getting back into independent housing. Civic Forum coordinator resigns
BOULDER ? Bruce Swinehart, coordinator of the Boulder County Civic Forum, will resign his post at the end of the month to open a private psychotherapy practice and to work with the Boulder County AIDS Project on a federal planning grant to support primary health care services for people with AIDS and HIV. The Forum says it promotes healthy decision-making that will sustain the environmental quality, livability, and economic vibrancy of the Boulder County region.
The organization is soliciting proposals from independent contractors who might be interested in the coordinator position on its Web site at www.bococivicforum.org. Blues Access denied BOULDER ? Cary Wolfson, founder, editor and publisher of Boulder-based Blues Access, a blues music magazine, has pulled the plug on his quarterly publication after 12 years and 48 issues.
Wolfson said he would attempt to expand the syndication of his radio show, Blues From Red Rooster Lounge, which airs on radio station KBCO 97.3 FM and six other stations.
Wolfson had tried to sell the magazine, which grossed $250,000 last year, but had no takers. ?It was always a struggle,? Wolfson said of turning a profit. ?But the last two years things went downhill. Costs spiraled, and sales slumped.?
Wolfson said the decision to use perfect binding and add more color increased costs, and he was losing money on distribution. Ad sales tapered off during the down economy of 2001 and circulation wasn’t increasing. The magazine had 4,500 paid subscribers and a circulation of about 25,000 copies. ?A lot of people say they like the blues, but not may support it,? he said.
Wolfson said he would maintain his Web site, www.bluesaccess.com, where fans can buy back issues of the magazine and T-shirts.Bellco expands to LafayetteLAFAYETTE ? Residents of Lafayette are eligible to join Denver-based Bellco Credit Union.
