Skins moves U.S. HQ to Boulder

BOULDER- An Australian manufacturer of form-fitting athletic wear is moving its U.S. headquarters to Boulder.

Skins USA signed a lease for 4,900 square feet at 5700 Flatiron Parkway, where it will begin to distribute its compression, body-molded garments to stores and customers in North and South America.

Skins’ garments claim to help athletes increase performance by increasing circulation by 31 percent, increasing muscle power by 10 percent, reducing soreness and controlling body temperature.

“We believe the unique therapeutic benefits of Skins will revolutionize the compression garment market in the U.S.,” Skins General Manager Patricia Babka said in a press release. “We are proud to be headquartered in Boulder with its community of elite athletes.”

The company pulled in $16 million in revenue last year from sales in Australia, Europe and Japan.

Locally, the Boulder Running Co., DIVAS and Fleet Feet will sell Skins products.

Skins joins an increasing number of international outdoor gear and apparel firms that have set up U.S. headquarters in Boulder.  Those companies include Japan’s Montbell, France’s Lafuma and Lapierre Cycles, Italy’s Salewa and Scarpa, and Germany’s Deuter.

Skins’ new building is next door to Mountain Sports Media’s new space in Flatiron Park. Jim Fisher with The Colorado Group and Natasha Felton with Colorado Commercial Cos. helped broker the deal.

“That building is a real success story for Boulder,” Fisher said.  “Not only did the city keep Mountain Sports Media, but we attracted another outdoor-related firm.”

Fisher said Skins plans to move into its new space in about 30 days.
