Spyder Active forms division

BOULDER – Spyder Active Sports Inc., a skiwear manufacturer, formed a division that will focus primarily on mountain athletes and mountain professionals in an effort to reach a broader market.

Boulder-based Spyder’s new Summyt Division will focus primarily on ski schools, ski patrols and mountain operations, such as lift line and groomer operators, as well as racers.

Phil Shettig, the company’s race and resort general manager, said the new division will operate independently from Spyder, yet share some commonalities.

Shettig said the division will have its own product, sales, logistics and account management departments but share finance, marketing and some other departments with Spyder.

By creating the division, it gives Spyder more leeway to create products designed specifically for a resort’s needs and allows the company to expand into areas such as law enforcement and the military.
