Its all about the image
On my daily morning jaunt around the Internet, to see how far along the road to hell our collective handbasket has slipped overnight, I routinely stop by sfgate.com for the Left Coast perspective. The Day in Pictures is usually good for a smile – maybe a billboard artist in funny juxtapostion to the image on the billboard, or an arresting shot from nature or NASA, that makes me think maybe things aren’t all bad – but this one stopped me cold.
With a half-dozen armed Israeli soldiers looking on in the background, a young Palestinian man plants one of 32 olive trees in the rocky soil along the route of the “separation barrier” under construction on the West Bank. In the background, his friend has taped a Virigina Tech logo to his shirt and holds a sign: “From Palestine to Virginia — We support you.”
