Subleasing makes for strange office fellows

Otter Products’ recent move puts the company in close quarters with a wholly unrelated business. But much like the pairing of Center Partners with Avago, it’s one that benefits both firms.

On Nov. 13, Otter employees moved box, stocks and barrel to the Ultimate Escapes building at 314 E. Mountain Ave. in Fort Collins. Otter was previously housed on several floors at 1 Old Town Square – almost directly across the street from the publicly traded luxury travel club.

Otter has taken over about two-thirds of the 6,700-square-foot Ultimate Escapes building to house about 80 employees.

Otter has been looking for new offices for several years. One option would have brought the company from downtown to the former Thunder Mountain Custom Cycles facility south of Interstate 25 and Mulberry Street. An issue with its lender put that move on hold, which turns out to be a bit serendipitous. The entire company, at 120 employees, has already outgrown that space, but it was used instead to consolidate all three OtterBox warehouses.

Ultimate Escapes, formerly Private Escapes, intended to fill the former Tailgate Tommy’s space when it was remodeled in 2007. However, the company ended up in a long-delayed merger that put the brakes on anticipated growth.
