Humane Society gets new leadership
FORT COLLINS – The Larimer County Humane Society, one of the largest animal welfare agencies in Colorado, has selected Judith Calhoun, a 25-year animal advocate, as its new executive director.
Calhoun most recently served as the associate executive director for the Colorado Veterinary Medical Foundation, the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society.
Calhoun’s professional experience includes eight years as the vice president of development and community relations at the Dumb Friends League in Denver and five years as the director of development at the Peninsula Humane Society in San Mateo, Calif.

She has also served as the executive director for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of Colorado and has worked in development for several colleges and universities.
Calhoun earned her master’s degree in sociology from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. Her professional accomplishments include the design and management of a successful $14 million dollar capital campaign for the Dumb Friends League and securing a $40,000 foundation gift for spay/neuter programs at Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital in Denver.

The Larimer Humane Society, founded in 1969, provides care to over 12,000 domestic, exotic, farmyard and wild animals annually. The Larimer Humane Society also provides animal protection and control services to Fort Collins, Loveland and Larimer County and operates the state’s largest independent wildlife rehabilitation center assisting over 3,000 wild animals each year.
