Vail ski division president becomes company adviser
BROOMFIELD — The president of the division that manages resorts for Vail Resorts Inc. (NYSE: MTN) is stepping down to become a senior adviser for the company.
In filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Monday morning, the ski operator said Patricia Campbell will transition from her current role as president of the company’s mountain segment into a full-time senior adviser effective on June 7. She will be paid a base salary of $569,250 per year and get other benefits usually afforded to company executives but will not be able to participate in the executive equity plan.
Campbell first joined Vail in 1999 as the director of the ski school at the company’s Breckenridge location. She was chief operating officer at the Keystone and Breckenridge resorts from 2006 to 2015 before being tapped as the company’s mountain operations head. In that role, she led the acquisition of 26 ski resorts into Vail’s portfolio, including 16 from Peak Resorts Inc. (Nasdaq: SKIS) in 2019.

“Pat is a trailblazer in the truest form, and while I will miss her contributions as president of the mountain division, I look forward to the impact she will continue to have in building a diverse leadership pipeline for our company’s future,” CEO Rob Katz said in a statement.
The mountain segment oversees operations at the company’s 37 ski resorts across the U.S., Canada and Australia, while two other business segments oversee the lodging and real estate aspect of the company. According to Vail’s latest annual report, the mountain segment produced just more than $500 million in earnings before taxes, interest and equipment depreciation and appreciation last year.
Campbell’s replacement will be James O’Donnell, the company’s executive vice president for hospitality, retail and real estate. O’Donnell will get an annual base salary of $500,000 with the possibility to earn 75% of that in a cash bonus, along with equity grants.
