Xcel Energy aims to double solar capacity over next 3 years

While wind is still the utility’s major source of renewable energy, Xcel Energy on Monday unveiled plans to double the amount of solar power generation in its portfolio over the next three years.

The Denver Post reports that Xcel on Monday filed its new renewable energy plan with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, showing a planned 401 megawatts of new solar generation. The 421 megawatts of overall renewable capacity to be added, the paper noted, would be enough to power 126,300 homes.
