Farmers markets are a summer staple. Coloradans are naturally drawn to local, healthy options, which is why farmers markets make for a great place to shop for produce and other products for a healthier lifestyle.

There are many health benefits to shopping at farmers markets. First, you gain a better understanding of where your food comes from – because it’s local. And local means little to no processing or preservatives. You’ll also likely eat more in-season items. When items are actually picked in season (versus those green bananas at the grocery store shipped from Costa Rica, for example), their nutritional value improves. Plus famers markets expose you to new fruits and vegetables. Adding variety to your daily diet through different produce is important, and is a simple way to reduce your risk for heart disease and cancer, as well as improve the health of your gastrointestinal tract.
