UCHealth to open cancer center June 9
Developers of the $11 million, 30,000-square-foot center aimed to “raise the bar” on cancer care by incorporating patient input into the design and construction. About 100 people, including patients, physicians and employees, provided input into the way the building should be constructed. UCHealth relied on a “survivors’ wish list” for guidance.
About 64 patients are currently lined up to receive care at the center, according to Joann Lovins, oncology service line director at UCHealth.

In addition to physical cancer treatment, counseling, massage, group therapy and other assets aimed at improving patients’ mental well-being are also included in the center.
One of the big goals of the center is to reduce the number of visits a patient makes to see various doctors. The average patient makes 100 trips to see a doctor in the first year after he or she is diagnosed with cancer. The center will work to reduce that number by having multiple services in one place, so that patients can save on trips.
The public will be allowed to tour the center following a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 4.
