Colorado’s health exchange ranks 4th for enrollees

DENVER – Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s health-insurance exchange, enrolled the fourth-most number of people in private insurance among state-run exchanges nationwide, enrolling about 129,000 people in private coverage.

Sixteen states and the District of Columbia run their own exchanges, with varying degrees of success. The rest of the states used the federally operated exchange at Healthcare.gov.

Data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid released Thursday show that including both enrollees in private plans and in Medicaid, more than 307,000 people signed up for insurance during the exchange’s open enrollment period, making Colorado the 14th-highest for enrollments among all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Colorado is the 22nd largest state in the country by population.

Open enrollment for coverage purchased on the exchange is closed until Nov. 15, but Medicaid enrollment is open year-round.
