Blue Ocean Challenge finals set for May 2

FORT COLLINS – Finals for the Blue Ocean Enterprises Challenge will be held May 2, pitting 15 businesses created by Colorado college students against each other in a competition for $20,000 and 12 months of business mentoring, as well as the change to compete against established startups for a grand prize of $250,000.

The collegiate competitors will give pitches at the Fort Collins Lincoln Center for their final presentation in the business-pitch contest, sponsored by Colorado State University and Blue Ocean Enterprises.

The semi-final contest will begin at 8 a.m., Friday, May 2, with each team being given 10 minutes to pitch their business to a panel of judges and another 10 minutes to answer questions. Finalists will be announced at 5 p.m.

The top five team will present their businesses to a different panel of judges that evening at 6 p.m., with the first-place team winning $20,000 and the opportunity to compete in the professional business-pitch contest, to be held May 23 and 24.

Second place wins $10,000 and third place wins $5,000, according to a release from CSU.

The teams represent four schools in Colorado: CSU, CU-Boulder, University of Denver and the Air Force Academy. Ten of the teams are from CSU.
