43North looking for entrepreneurs to enter contest

BOULDER – 43North, a business-plan competition with $5 million in prizes, is looking for startups to compete.

43North’s startup liaison Dan Gigante is giving a number of talks Monday and Tuesday in Boulder and Denver to present information about the contest and its application process.

Entrepreneurs who enter the contest will compete for a top cash prize of $1 million, six prizes of $500,000 each, and four prizes of $250,000 each.

Winners will also receive free incubator space in Buffalo, N.Y., for one year and guidance from mentors related to their field.

43North is based in Buffalo and is part of former New York governor Andrew Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion initiative, which aims to drive economic opportunities in Buffalo and western New York.

43North has received thousands of applications from 48 states and 66 countries since its launch on Feb. 5, according to a release. Applications will be accepted until May 31.

Gigante will speak at a number of Boulder and Denver organizations. The schedule for the talks on Monday, April 21, is 11 a.m. at Boomtown, and 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at TechStars. On April 22, talks will be at 8 a.m. at Scrib, and at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Galvanize.
