Schedule set for New Belgium’s Tour de Fat bike rides

FORT COLLINS — New Belgium Brewing announced the schedule for its 2014 Tour de Fat bike rides, including a date for the Fort Collins ride, to be held Aug. 30.

Tour de Fat, in its 15th year, is a festival that celebrates the bicycle while showcasing New Belgium beers and providing entertainment.

The event, where costumes are encouraged, is free and all proceeds from food and beer go to local biking groups.

Ten cities will hold rides this year. Last year, Tour de Fat was staged in 12 cities and attracted a total of 97,500 beer and bike enthusiasts and 57,359 bike parade participants.
Fort Collins raised the most money, making $90,000, and had the most festival-goers and parade riders, both totaling 25,000 people. In total last year, Tour de Fat raised $535,924 for local nonprofits in the cities it visited.
Fort Collins’ ride begins at Civic Center Park and travels through downtown Fort Collins.

Denver will also host a ride, on Sept. 6 in City Park.

Over its course, Tour de Fat has raised more than $3 million for nonprofit organizations.
