Tech-transfer fair to feature national labs

FORT COLLINS – Northern Colorado businesses will get a chance to learn the latest on how to commercialize federal research from some of the nation’s top labs at a tech transfer fair Aug. 7.

Companies in the life-sciences, agricultural, energy and natural resources fields as well as entrepreneurs and academics are expected to attend the Northern Colorado Technology Transfer Fair.

Attendees will be able to meet with everyone from scientists to the directors of the Centers for Disease Control, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Department of Agriculture at the free event. Representatives of CSU Ventures, Rocky Mountain Innosphere and other area organizations also will attend.

At the fair, businesspeople can learn how to work effectively with federal labs, apply for small-business research grants and obtain licensing agreements. Organizations will have booths that feature their work, and businesspeople and government officials will give presentations on successful collaborations between the public and private sectors.

A similar event has been held in Boulder area annually, but the Northern Colorado event is the first of its kind to take place in Larimer County, agriculture department spokeswoman Gail Keirn said.

“We really wanted to highlight Larimer County,” she said.
