You can’t outsource your job search

Beware of those expensive career search firms. They generally over-promise and under-deliver. And they typically cost a small fortune. These organizations prey on the fears of job searchers in transition. It seems the reputable career firms are few and far between.

On the other hand, if your job search has stagnated or you are considering a career change, it may make sense to work with a competent career counselor. We can all benefit from counseling and coaching from time to time.

Just be sure to temper your expectations. Be realistic and plan on working harder than the counselor. Counselors don’t hand out jobs. Many times they don’t even hand out job leads.
