I Love a Good Interview

There is nothing quite so intriguing as a good interview in which an artist, entrepreneur, or expert of some kind or another, is offering up their personal insights in a Q & A session. Documentary films, television, radio programs and books all successfully use the interview format to bring people and ideas to life for an audience. I often hang on every word, listening, scanning for a nugget of truth or some profound bit of wisdom that I might apply to my own circumstances.

As a recruiter, I tend to interview candidates in much the same way. I am eager to get to know more about the candidate and want to give them a chance to reinforce my feelings of respect and admiration. I am always looking for glimmers of truth, insight and a bit of something unique that will set one candidate apart from another. I put candidates in the spotlight and give them a chance to shine.

Candidates, listen up. Go to your next interview as if you were an expert being interviewed for a local radio show. Imagine yourself giving your best advice. Be personable and warm. Enlighten the interviewer. Say something memorable.
