Big Mac Attacker

There’s a guy in Wisconsin who just ate his 25,000th Big Mac.

Just about everyone must be familiar with McDonald’s Big Mac sandwich, even McDonald’s haters. Remember those catchy ads? “Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun”?

That either makes your mouth start to water or you feel ill. Seems like you either love ’em or hate ’em.

Me, I don’t exactly “love” them but I certainly don’t hate them. And I guess I’ve eaten quite a few over the years.

But 25,000? No way, Jose.

Don Gorske started eating Big Macs 39 years ago and has the date of his first Mac etched in his mind: May 17, 1972. Gorske, 57, told reporters he ate the first one to celebrate buying a new car. He liked them so much, he ate NINE that day.

A retired prison guard living in Fond Du Lac, Gorske’s accomplishment of eating 23,000 Big Macs earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records three years ago. And he’s been beating his own record every day since, usually eating two BMs a day.

He even made it into the 2004 movie “Super Size Me,” which featured a man experimenting with an all-McDonald’s diet. That man, Morgan Spurlock, gained 24 pounds in a month and his cholesterol shot up to 230.

But Gorske, who stands six feet two inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds, seems to be thriving on his Macs. In 2009, his cholesterol level was a very healthy 151.

Gorske admits he suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder, but said he really does enjoy the sandwich.

“A person like me, I just don’t change too much,” he told the Daily Mail. “It’s pretty much two Big Macs a day.”

OK, so how do we know he’s REALLY eaten 25,000 Big Macs? Well, Gorske has been saving his receipts since McDonald’s first began issuing them in 1994 and he also saves many of the cardboard cartons the sandwiches come in (talk about obsessive-compulsive).

But that doesn’t account for his first 22 years of Big Mac consumption. He told reporters he writes his purchases on a calendar, and I guess Guinness must have checked it out and agreed with Gorske’s tally.

After consuming Big Macs so frequently and for so long, Gorske even knows how many bites it takes to eat one (16).
I think I could do it in fewer bites, but this guy obviously SAVORS his Macs.

According to McDonald’s, there are 540 calories in a Big Mac, more than a quarter of what the average person on a 2,000-calorie diet consumes. If he eats two, that’s more than half.

He must have an awesome metabolism.

Gorske said he often buys the sandwiches in bulk, takes them home and freezes them and then microwaves them back to perfection so he doesn’t have to visit a McDonald’s every single day.

And there’s apparently no end in sight for the 39-year love affair between this guy and his Big Mac.

“I plan on eating Big Macs until I die,” he told the Associated Press. “It’s still my favorite food. I look forward to it every day.”

My question is: Why hasn’t McDonald’s signed this guy to be their version of Jared Fogle, the guy whose weight loss made Subway famous?

They’re probably worried he could keel over any day.
