Hot Topics

I have been asked to blog about this topic by many of my colleagues. Apparently, this is a message that bears repeating. It all seems so obvious to me but here goes…

Modesty is the best policy
Unless you work at Hooters or Victoria Secret, your bra straps and cleavage should not be visible. Even if you are as flat as a pancake, a tank top should not replace a properly fitted bra. Use nice layering pieces under sheer fabrics.

No knees please
Dresses and skirts are great as long as they fall below the knees. When you wear anything shorter, sitting down becomes rather complicated. Think sweaty thighs sticking to an office chair. Yuck.

Watch out for wrinkles
I love linen fabric but it gets very wrinkly and can look sloppy. Stick with wrinkle free fabrics when dressing to impress.

Beware of body odor
It can sneak up on the best of us. Scrub your armpits with a washcloth and use deodorant soap, wear an anti-perspirant, and launder your clothes regularly. Don’t forget your feet. Open shoes can cause our little piggy toes to sweat and smell.

Speaking of toes
Depending on your industry, open toed shoes may not be appropriate no matter how high the temperatures rise. You may want to try peep toed shoes. If you wear open toed shoes, splurge on a pedicure.

Ditch the coconut body oil
In the summer we tend to bare our skin so scented lotions may become more noticeable than in the winter months. Stay moisturized but use unscented products. Your nose may get used to the perfume but others may find your scent to be overwhelming. Never use perfumes to compensate for skipping a shower.

As the weather warms up, women tend to dress more casually, and in some cases, skimpily. Whether you are in job search mode or currently employed, it is important to maintain good hygiene and professionalism even during the dog days of summer.
