NFL, NFLPA to reopen mediation talks
The Brady vs. NFL case, which is the National Football League Players Association’s antitrust lawsuit against the league, had its first day in court on April 6. Judge Susan Nelson said that she has taken the player’s motion to grant an injunction “under advisement,” recommended that both sides return to negotiations in federal court, and that she would issue a ruling in “a couple of weeks.”
Meanwhile, both the NFL and NFLPA were on an hour-long conference call on Friday to discuss mediation in the interim, but both were ordered to stay silent about the specifics by Judge Nelson. If an agreement cannot be reached outside of court, these are the following outcomes Judge Nelson may enforce:
- Granting the injunction (Lockout would end).
- Barring the injunction (Lockout would continue).
- Send both parties to mediation.
- Refer the case to the National Labor Relations Board.
