Small NoCo towns growing fast

Three small Northern Colorado towns saw the largest increase in
year-over-year population growth, according to the latest estimates from
the U.S. Census Bureau.

Timnath saw the greatest growth in the state, with its population
increasing 27 percent from 2008 to 2009. Actual population for 2009 was
631, up from 496 in the previous year. Lochbuie, located along
Interstate 76, was the second fastest-growing in the state with a 25.2
percent increase, up to 109 from 87 in 2008. Johnstown came in at No. 3
with a year-over-year increase of 18.6 percent, up to 618 from 521.

The statewide population grew about 1.8 percent year-over-year and was
up 16.8 percent since the 2000 Census. Larimer County’s population
growth closely mirrored that of the state with a 1.9 percent
year-over-year growth and 18.6 percent growth since 2000. Weld County’s
population grew 2.4 percent from 2008 to 2009 and 40.8 percent since
2000. The total population of Colorado in 2009 was just over 5 million,
up from 4.3 million in 2000.

Among the region’s largest municipalities, Fort Collins’ 2009 population
estimate of 138,736 represented the largest year-over-year growth with a
2.1 percent increase, though its growth since 2000 of 16.9 percent was
the lowest. For Loveland, the 2009 population estimate of 66,215
calculates into a 1.7 percent year-over-year growth and a 30.8 percent
increase since 2000. Greeley’s population increased 1.7 percent from
2008 to 92,625 in 2009 – up 20.4 percent since 2000.
